Groland /grólənd/ (male)

A marginally gruffer version of Roland, this wonderful new name calls to mind such things as fertile soil or pools of still water. Indeed the name seems to have a fundamental connection to the stuff of the earth, though it also seems to acknowledge the growing influence of modernity on these more pastoral aspects. As one would expect, Groland is slowly climbing the baby-name charts. Don’t be surprised to see it break into the top 50 lists by – at the very latest – early 2016.
